Job description
Ensure safe operation of assigned workshops (Crushers, Kilns, Raw Mills, Coal Mill, Biomass
Dryer and Cement Mills) on a stable and optimum operation in order to meet and exceed
production and quality targets with minimal operational incidents,
Roles and responsibilities
(Production Operations)
● Control all major process lines within the cement manufacturing operation including equipment
commissioning, starts- ups, shutdowns, and emergency condition management as per established
SOP’s in order to meet production requirements
● Operate Kilns, Raw Mills, coal mill, cement mills, biomass dryer and Crushers as per the Standard
Operating Procedures {SOPs}, General Function Specifications {GFS}
● Control product quality at all stages of the cement manufacturing process by having a clear
understanding of the targets, and the levers that are used to control the targets, along with the
appropriate decision-making process based on the impact of each lever.
● Maintain awareness of the automation system control strategy and make recommendations for
continuous improvement
● Monitor continuously, all plant process lines using all available tools to ensure employee safety,
stable equipment operation, equipment integrity within prescribed design limitations, operating
targets, and environmental regulations
● Ensure Quality Standards as per quality plans and manuals.
● Report immediately all Plant /Equipment failures (defects) to the Shift Coordinator and
maintenance personnel for corrective action and rectification.
● Review the Standard Operating Procedures {SOPs}
● Write a shift report to highlight plant operation status and ensure smooth hand over.
● Log plant process data as required on log sheets
● Carry out any other duties as assigned by Shift Coordinator.
(Production Planning)
• Coordinate plant resources to troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain plant equipment as required, to
meet production demands and prevent failures
• Communicate with the Field Patroller and his team to ensure effective plants operation
People & Development
● Support and develop Field patrollers to improve their performance
(OH&S and Environment)
• Maintain personal safety, all other personnel and equipment during plant operation respecting safety
guidelines and procedures at all times
(Budget & Cost Control)
• Maintain awareness of plant operating costs e.g TSR impact, PRI and limit use of HFO and consider
these costs regularly in the decision-making process
Educational Requirements
● Minimum of Ordinary / National Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, process or chemical
Engineering
● 3+ years’ experience in cement industry on similar post.
● Certification in Cement control room operations is an added advantage
● Experience in busy industrial environment preferred
